Sile Seoige celebrates son’s naming ceremony

Sile Seoige welcomed her new baby Cathal with partner Damien O’Farrell at the Coombe Maternity Hospital in August.

The couple decided to the bypass the usual tradition of a Christening by instead having their own naming ceremony in Galway, where Sile is from.

Sile said she had a “magical” few days after celebrating the birth of her first baby with this unique naming ceremony, and her sister Grainne flew back from South Africa to join the celebrations.

Sile showed her thanks and delight on Instagram with the event running so well, surrounded by family and friends.

She captioned the photo, “Dublin bound after a magic few days in the West celebrating our maneen. I am so happy that we went for the experience that we wanted for him…a naming ceremony at home in Spiddal with family who travelled from Cork, Longford, Dublin and even South Africa to be there!”

“A bilingual ceremony by a very close family friend which brought tears and laughter.
It was personal, authentic and heartfelt and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Fresh air, walks on the beach, quality time with family, cuddles, singsongs & plenty of craic!”

She added that the special ceremony was conducted in English and Irish.

The former Newstalk presenter was given the all-clear almost a year ago, five years after she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer back in 2012.
