Shane Lynch hits out at RTÉ following controversial Late Late interview

The Boyzone star shocked viewers with his behaviour on the show

Shane Lynch has hit out at RTÉ, following his controversial appearance on The Late Late Show last Friday.

After missing a flight from the UK, Shane arrived late for Boyzone’s much-anticipated appearance on the show – but it’s what happened next that had everyone shocked.

After host Ryan Tubridy played an embarrassing clip of the band from 25 years ago, Shane ended up swearing on live TV, and showing his middle finger to the camera.

Addressing the controversy for the first time since the interview aired, Shane explained, “I arrive in this TV studio called RTE… we’ve been there for a long time, and they decide from the beginning of that interview to try and take us down a peg or two.”

“Like we f**king need it. We don’t need that kind of s***. The bottom line is I was just disappointed in the fact that we were very young and very innocent,” he told Niall Boylan on Classic Hits FM.

“We’ve gone on to do amazing things, amazing things. And what are you going to do? Try and chop us down? I’ll tell you what. Anyone that has tried to chop me down I’ve cut them off and told them how I didn’t like it. I like Ryan Tubridy.

“If you want to chop me down and try and put me in a place, I’m going to come out fighting. And that’s all that happened,” he said.

According to RTÉ, the station received 14 calls and 28 e-mails over Shane’s shocking outburst, but no formal complaints have been made as of yet.

As for parents complaining that their kids were watching, and therefore heard his bad language, Shane said, “Some of the comments that came back in. ‘That’s disgraceful, there are kids watching’, hey, the kids should be in f**king bed at that time.

“If it’s not The Late Late Toy Show, put them in bed,” he added.
