Shane Filan fulfils fan's dying wish

Shane Filan fulfilled the dying wish of a fan who launched an online campaign to meet her idol just hours before she died.

23-year-old Emma Clayson was given three months to live last November after her skin cancer spread to other organs.

Her sister Becky launched an online campaign to help grant Emma her dying wish to meet the former Westlife star.

The appeal quickly went viral and Shane flew to Northampton, England to surprise Emma at her home.

The Sligo native is said to have spent an hour with his fan, before giving her CDs and posters and signing autographs – 18 hours after his visit Emma sadly passed away.

“Shane was wonderful. He sat with Emma and held her hand and chatted away like a member of the family,” Emma’s mother told The Mirror.

“Emma had a huge smile on her face. It was the loveliest afternoon for her. She has always been a huge Westlife fan.

“She went to both their farewell concerts and even flew over to Dublin to see them without telling us.

“I only found out she’d gone when I found the tickets in her bag,” she added.

“She said, ‘Mum if I’d asked if I could go you would have said no and if I’d told you I was going you would’ve only worried’.”

Becky took to Facebook to start the appeal and after thousands shared it, Shane’s tour manager spotted the post and contacted Emma’s family to arrange a visit.

“The moment he walked into Emma’s bedroom, she just had this massive smile on her face. We were all tearing up already,” Becky said.

“He held her hand throughout the whole time he was with her and said how brave she was and how strong she is and that she is an amazing woman.

“He was saying how she is his biggest fan and heard from mum how Emma has chosen his song – Always Tomorrow – to be played at her funeral,” she explained.

“He told her that whenever he sings it, he is going to think of her. Shane also promised he would be dedicating his concert in Northampton to her.”

Shane took to Twitter after to thank fans for helping to make Emma’s last day so special.
