RTE 'snubbed' Gerry Ryan's partner Melanie Verwoerd at unveiling of special memorial

RTE  did not invite his partner Melanie Verwoerd to a private unveiling of his new Gerry Ryan’s special memorial this week.

The late broadcaster was remembered on Thursday with a special plaque out in RTE studios.

According to the Irish Daily star Melanie (53) was not invited to a private event held by RTm even though Gerry’s family were present.

“They went to huge lengths to make sure only a handful of people were aware of the fact that it was happening.”

“All staff were asked to respectfully observe the family’s appeal for privacy,” a source told the paper.

“Instead they were invited to attend a separate memorial the following morning to pay their respects.”

While Melanie was not present, Gerry’s children Lottie, Babette, Elliot and Bonnie were all there at 6pm on Thursday.

Gerry’s widow Morah Ryan also attended the ceremony, alongside 2FM boss Dan Healy and DJ Colm Hayes.

Some of the guests spoke at the unveiling about Gerry’s life.

As Goss.ie revealed this week, the plaque was designed by Patrick O’Reilly, a personal friend of the Ryan family.
