RTÉ receive HUNDREDS of complaints after Late Late Valentines Special

RTÉ received HUNDREDS of complaints after the Late Late Show’s Valentines Special on Friday night.

According to the Independent.ie, the station received 176 calls, 120 emails and 10 formal complaints “offering negative feedback about the programme”.

In a statement, a spokesperson said, “RTÉ will respond to these complaints within 20 days, in keeping with RTÉ Complaints procedure established under the Broadcasting Act 2009.”

However, despite the negative feedback – the show went down a hit ratings wise as an average of 568,400 viewers tuned into the show, which featured an audience of 200 singletons.

The show was branded “chaos” from the get go, as Linda Martin and Al Porter opened the V-Day special with a rendition of the 1981 classic Dead Ringer For Love.

The show also featured a saucy Blind Date segment, a ‘kiss cam’ encouraging audience members to smooch on camera, and host Ryan Tubridy handing out hampers filled with condoms to audience members.

Due to the rowdy nature of the audience, many viewers questioned how much alcohol audience members had consumed beforehand.

However, when questioned, a spokesperson said, “As is customary with every edition of the Late Late Show, audience members are offered a small amount of complimentary refreshments, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, before the show.

“The standard amount of refreshments was made available to the audience on Friday night’s programme. The audience was hyped up on love only and it made for a really fun show,” they added.
