Rory McIlroy’s fears over starting a family with Erica Stoll

Rory McIlroy has admitted that he fears representing Ireland at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, due to the deadly Zika virus that could impact his plans to start a family with fiancée Erica Stoll.

While the Irish Open champion intends on making it to Rio this summer, the sports star admitted that he does have his doubts with regard to the mosquito-borne Zika virus that has spread across Brazil.

“There’s going to be a point in the next couple of years where we are going to have to think about starting a family,” he told BBC Northern Ireland.

“Right now I’m ready to go but I don’t want anything to affect that.

“I have been reading a lot of reports about Zika and there have been some articles coming out saying it might be worse than they’re saying and I have to monitor that situation.”

Despite the 27-year-old wanting to settle down and start a family with Erica, Rory assured fans that he fully intends on making it to the Olympic Games to represent Ireland.

“Right now I am going and looking forward to it.

“I am actually going to get my injections on Wednesday. At least I will be immunised for whatever if I do get bitten by a mosquito down there,” he added.
