Rob Lipsett on Love Island: ‘They wanted me to talk down about people – that’s not my style’

Irish influencer Rob Lipsett has explained why he didn’t get much air time on ITV’s Love Island.

YouTuber and public speaker Rob, and Dublin model Shannen Reilly McGrath, were the first Irish contestants to ever appear on the reality series, but were eliminated on Sunday after failing to couple-up with anyone in the villa.

Many viewers complained about Rob’s lack of air time on the show, and now the fitness vlogger has explained why.

“When people said to me that I didn’t get enough airtime, I thought they were joking because I speak on camera for a living. I don’t have over 250,000 YouTube subscribers for saying nothing,” he said on TV3’s Xposé.

“When I watched the show back, it all clicked. You need to create drama. They wanted me to gossip and talk down about people and that’s not my style.”

Despite lasting only three days in the villa, which is based in Mallorca, Rob and Shannen have no regrets about going on the show.

“It’s fine, it was a great experience and I’ve got plenty to come back to, so it’s honestly a win-win situation for me,” he said.

“It’s an amazing stepping stone no matter how long you’re in there for,” Shannen said. “I had a really good time – three days feels like a week in there so I don’t regret it.”
