Pippa O’Connor gets emotional as she opens up about son Ollie starting school

The model mum's first child is heading into Junior Infants in September

Pippa O’Connor is understandably emotional as she prepares for her first child, Ollie, to start school in September.

The model mum’s five-year-old son will join Junior Infants in a matter of days, something that gives Pippa a “lump” in her throat.

On when the big day finally comes around, she said, “I think I’ll be the emotional one, to be honest. Although he’s been in pre-school it feels like such a big deal sending your baby to big school. The thoughts of him in a uniform and tie put a lump in my throat.”

“It feels very grown up and I suppose you feel emotional because it’s like a big step out of baby years! It makes me think where have all the years gone. I can’t quite believe it.”

In this month’s issue of VIP Magazine, Pippa went on to explain, “We considered sending him last year at 4 and a half but we decided to wait another year, so by now he is really ready for it and is asking lots of questions.”

“We live close by to his new school so it’s nice that when we drive by he’s getting familiar with it. I’m sure with excitement there will be nerves too – about meeting new friends, having a new teacher and everything else that goes with it.”

“Without going on about it too much I would say things like, ‘you’re going to love your new school and making new friends’.

“I’ve told him we will go to pick his new school bag, pencil case and lunch box soon – so he’s excited for that part too.”

Pippa and her husband Brian Ormond are also parents to their 2-year-old son Louis.
