Pat Kenny has revealed the three key pieces of advice given to him by Gay Byrne.
The broadcaster appeared on tonight’s special edition of the Late Late Show, where he and other prominent Irish figures reminisced about the late Gay Byrne.
Pat revealed that Gay shared three nuggets of advice with him.
“One was if things are not going well, cut and run. With an audience, if they don’t get it, get out.”
“The second thing was egg and chips on Friday before the late late show.”
“The reason was, he didn’t trust the food in the canteen and said there wasn’t much they could do to egg and chips,” he joked.
“And the third thing was; if you’re not getting in trouble with the powers that be in RTÉ then you are not doing your job properly.”
In 1999, Pat took over the reins of the Late Late show from Gay.
He continued to host the Friday night talk show until 2009 before he handed the baton to the current host, Ryan Tubridy.
