Niall Horan says 1D reunion is ‘inevitable’ – despite launching solo career

Niall Horan has admitted that a One Direction reunion is “inevitable” – despite launching his solo career yesterday by releasing his debut single.

Shocking fans worldwide, the Mullingar native dropped his debut solo single on Thursday without warning – which has already shot up in the music charts just hours after its release.

Since the One Direction boys went on hiatus, Niall, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and former bandmate Zayn Malik have all pursued solo projects – however, Niall refuses to rule out a reunion between the boys.

“For the foreseeable it’s our own projects.. but I definitely would not rule and won’t let anyone rule out the return of One Direction, because it’s inevitable,” he said on Westwood One’s Zach Sang Show.

Speaking about going solo, the 23-year-old admitted that the thought of being alone on stage is “daunting”.

“Obviously it’s going to be a daunting thing…but it’s something I’m gonna have to get used to. I’m gonna miss the boys onstage.”

After 1D went their separate ways, Niall went backpacking with friends across Southeast Asia – which he said “normalised” his life following five years of madness after One Direction’s success on The X Factor UK.

“Backpacking trip kind of normalised my life, I suppose. I didn’t get asked for photos anywhere. When you’re in tourist spots, no one expects you to be there.

“So it was kind of like, I kept my hat on, kept my sunglasses on, kept my head down, did all the usual tourist stuff in Southeast Asia with a rucksack on my back. I definitely learned a lot on that trip.

Niall wrote This Town with Jamie Scott, who wrote 1D’s hit Story of My Life, and the singer explained that his hometown of Mullingar, and a girl, inspired the songs lyrics.

“To me the way I look at it, if you’re from a small town you’ll get this, every time you go back to your hometown you’ll see this girl in the bar, or wherever, and then everything comes back to you.

“And then the other part of it is the town itself no matter whatever you do whenever you live, when you go home, everything comes back to the town. That’s the way I kind of wrote it, as a double meaning.”
