Meghan Markle wore a dress designed by Emilia Wickstead this evening in Dublin, a choice which may raise some eyebrows.

Following her Royal wedding to Prince Harry in May, designer Emilia Wickstead claimed that Meghan’s Givenchy wedding dress by Claire Waight Keller looked very similar to one of her own bridal dress designs.

According to the Daily Mail, Emilia said, “Her dress is identical to one of our dresses. Apparently a lot of commentators were saying, ‘It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress.'”

The designer went on to critique the fit of Meghan’s dress by saying, “If you choose a simple design the fit should be perfect. Her wedding dress was quite loose.”

However, after Emilia’s cutting comments hit headlines, the designer released a statement through her rep to The Cut, which read, “I am extremely saddened by commentary that has appeared in the press and on-line over the past few days.”

“Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex looked absolutely beautiful on her wedding day and I have the utmost admiration and respect for her.”

“I do not think that her wedding dress was a copy of any of our designs. I have the greatest respect for Clare Waight Keller and the House of Givenchy—a huge source of inspiration to me.

“I wish Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a wonderful, happy and love filled life together,” she added.

Either way, it appears there’s no hard feelings – as Meghan wore one of Emilia’s chic designs to a summer garden party at the British Ambassador’s headquarters in Dublin this evening.
