Meet Ireland’s newest beauty pageant queen – Cailín Áine Ní Toibín.

The Cork native is the first Miss Universe Ireland contestant in 7 years to make it to the Top 16.

Aged just 23, Cailín beat thousands of hopefuls to make it into the competition in the first place, and on the night beat dozens of beauty queens to land in the final.

The blonde was named as a Top 16 finalist in the competition this Sunday, which took place in Las Vegas at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

The mental health advocate has been working as a part-time sales assistant in Brown Thomas, Cork.

Cailín took the crown from model Joanna Cooper, who has had a stellar modelling career since winning the title in 2015.

Top Irish designer Eamonn McGill designed her national costume for the competition, which received huge praise online.

While newly crowned Miss Ireland Lauren McDonagh did not place this year at Miss World, we have had a history of success at beauty pageants.

Rosanna Davison was crowned Miss World in 2003, Emma Waldron won Miss World Talent in 2010 and Rozanna Purcell landed in the Top 10 at miss Universe in 2010 also.
