They instantly loved her!

Maura Higgins has revealed that she left Love Island executives “speechless” when she auditioned for the show.

The Longford native went down a hit on this year’s series, and was hailed a feminist icon for her no nonsense attitude.

The brunette beauty appeared on The Late Late Show on Friday night to talk about her time on the show, and revealed how she landed her spot in the villa in the first place.

Maura told host Ryan Tubridy that she was contacted a few times to audition for the show, but she had always been in a relationship.

So when the opportunity came around again and she was single, she decided to go for it, and Maura described the process as “quite straight forward”.

She said: “You just go for an interview. I was actually quite tipsy on my first interview. I was sitting in a bar in London and I said, ‘I’m going to have a few wines. I need it for the courage.'”

After her initial audition, Maura was invited to meet the Love Island executives – which was a big deal at the time.

She said: “Then, I went for an interview with the execs, so that’s the big one. They’re the guys you have to impress. I remember going in first thinking, ‘I’m not going to crack these, there’s no bloody way.'”

But then, Maura said, “After chatting to them loads they were cracking up. I remember one of them said to the other guy, ‘I’m actually speechless.’

“I was like, ‘I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing,'” she laughed. “But I got a call back straight away and they were like, ‘The execs absolutely loved you.'”

And the rest, as they say, is history…
