Maura Derrane: 'Having a baby at 43 has been life changing and the highlight of my year'

RTE star Maura Derrane has revealed having her first child this year at age 43 has been “life changing” and the highlight of her year.

The Today Show presenter gave birth to son Cal in May and was lucky to have survived after she faced major blood loss during labour.

“It was such a big deal for me, especially since I was that bit older having him. It’s been life changing,” she said.

Overjoyed: Maura is looking forward to Christmas with son Cal | VIPIRELAND.COM

The TV star is looking forward to spending her first Christmas with baby Cal and Fine Gael TD husband John Deasy.

“It’s our first Christmas with the bambino so we’re going to go to Dungarvan where John is from and then to the Aran Islands to my family,” she told the RTE Guide.

“We’re so lucky because he’s a very chilled baby and doesn’t mind travelling at all. Of course we’ll bring him to see Santa even though he’s probably too young to get it, it has to be done.”

Maura also revealed her wishes for 2015 and hopes to see her career go from strength to strength.

“The show is great, Daithi and I have really cemented our on-screen relationship and we’re a strong team now and it’s solid.”

However, the RTE star says her son Cal now takes top priority. She added: “The priority now is Cal and that he’s well and happy and really, I can’t think beyond that.”
