Marian Finucane’s husband John Clarke gives emotional speech at her funeral

Marian Finucane’s husband John Clarke has given an emotional speech at the late broadcaster’s funeral mass today.

The legendary presenter died suddenly at her home in Kildare on January 2nd.

Married in 2015, the couple have been together for 40 years.

“Its been a horrid day, a terrible week. But I’m glad you’re all here,” he began his touching tribute.

“A woman who I’ve loved for 40 years, a woman who for me always made the colours brighter the world a bit easier to live in.”

“Last December, she decided to retire and we were so excited. We would have more time, more space more books to read more places to see,” he said revealing her plans to retire.

“Sadly that has not got to happen.”

“Somebody said about us, I don’t know who but we were two 15 year old adolescence who were addicted to each other and forgot to grow up, I don’t deny that.”

“I had a lot of things to say and do about various things with Marian and I don’t have…” he stopped catching his anguish in his words before continuing.

“I find myself so powerless at the moment I don’t know what to do I truly don’t know what to do.”

“A few weeks ago we were in a township in Africa with a very old  black woman and she said to us ‘the only thing she could give you are my tears’, and that’s all I think I can do today.”

Marian is survived by her husband John and son Jack Clarke. She is pre-deceased by her daughter Sinead.
