THIS is how many people tuned in to Sunday night’s infuriating episode of Fair City

Fair City was watched by an astonishing number of 539,000 (40% share) on Sunday night, as many viewers tuned in with the hopes that the Katy kidnapping storyline would FINALLY come to an end.

In an hour-long episode of the popular Irish soap, viewers really thought Katy would finally get her freedom, but alas it wasn’t to be.

Although Emmet finally told Debbie and Eoghan that he had been getting calls from her captor, things ended badly.

In tense scenes in Carrigstown, things took a turn for the worst for Emmet (Daithí Mac Suibhne) as he found himself in grave danger at the hands of his sister’s captor Ciaran (Johnny Ward).

Meanwhile, much-anticipated new series Redwater debuted with 495,000 (38% share).

Produced by the BBC in association with RTÉ, viewers discovered the identity of Kat Moon’s long-lost son, revealing the first of many secrets the villagers would prefer to leave hidden.

The series, also starring Shane Richie, Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle Kennedy, and Fionnula Flanagan, continues on RTÉ One for the next five Sunday nights at 9.30pm.

The news comes after Fair City faced serious backlash after viewers claimed that Sunday night’s episode was ‘too violent’.
