Love/Hate's Peter Coonan finds it 'difficult' leaving newborn baby to go to work

Love/Hate star Peter Coonan has admitted he’s finding it “difficult” to leave his newborn baby girl behind for work.

The RTE actor’s girlfriend Kim O’Driscoll gave birth to Beth in May – allowing him to stay at home with her for two months.

But Peter has now been forced to leave them alone while going to rehearsals for upcoming play Borstal Boy.

“It’s difficult. I’ve started to do it the last two weeks with the new job. You get used to it, being at home all the time,” he said.

“Then when you come back it feels like I’ve been away from days.”

And Peter said it has been a real “eye-opener” having another newborn in his life.

“It’s quite an eye-opener. It’s amazing. No wonder everyone adores their parents,” he told Tubridy on 2FM.

“You go from this little thing needing so much attention from your parents, then you grow up and adore them. I understand that so much more now.

“It’s all going well at the moment. She’s great. We’re starting to get more sleep and she’s starting to get more used to the world.

“We’ve been getting seven hours of sleep – she’s been sleeping solidly from 10pm. Then there’s feeding and back in for two hours. So we’re quite lucky at the moment.”

Meanwhile Peter admitted he was really nervous before having to sing for his new film but enjoys playing a character so far removed from Fran.

He had to belt out a tune by Republic of Loose’s Mick Pyro Get Up And Go, which is showing at the Galway Film Fleadh – and also stars Love/Hate’s Killian Scott.

“It was quite daunting. I had to learn guitar as well in a very short space of time,” he said.

“I had a song written by Mick, and Mick taught me some tunes which I had to sing in the film.

“It was quite daunting, it was definitely the hardest thing I had to do – sing live. I don’t know how many times I sang it. I just hope it comes out okay.

“I was just nervous about getting it right and not looking like a fool. But it turned out okay, I think.”
