Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley to retire from stage next year

Michael Flatley has revealed he plans to retire from performing next year – after his new show performs in Dublin.

The Lord of the Dance will take to the stage for the last two dance acts when Lord of the Dance – Dangerous Games takes to the O2 stage next March.

The Cork-based super-hoofer admitted he chose to end in Ireland as he “wanted to say ‘thanks’ to people for everything over the past 20 years or so.”

But Michael – who will be joined by Nadine Coyle, who will sing in the show – admitted he needs to let his body rest after years of performing.

“This old body of mine is battered from all the years dancing in shows around the world,” he told the Independent.

“I don’t think I could attempt to dance an entire show. But the lure of this new show opening in Dublin before an Irish audience was just too much and I just had to be involved.

This is something I wanted to do in Ireland. The O2 will always be the Point Depot for me… it is where it all began for me.”
