Liam Neeson: 'I turned to Bono to help keep my kids off drugs'

He’s a tough guy on screen, but Liam Neeson has admitted he needs a bit of help when it comes to his children.

The 62-year-old who has two sons – Michael Richard, 19, and Daniel Jack, 18, revealed he once turned to Bono for help when he wanted to scare his children off drugs.

“Drugs are a huge worry for all of us, I think, and it’s the most insidious evil that’s on the planet, drugs and the proliferation of them.”

“They are everywhere, every school playground, primary school, secondary school, grammar school, private school. That terrifies me, as a parent and as a human being,” he said.

“I remember talking to my pal Bono one time. Two of his kids are older than my boys and I asked Bono what he’d told his lads.

“And he says, ‘I will give you some advice with regard to drugs that Mick Jagger, who has about 55 kids, gave to me: Don’t be f***ing stupid!’,” Liam told the Daily Mail.

Liam tragically lost his wife Natasha Richardson in 2009 after a freak skiing accident. The actor says he’s tried his best to protect his children.

“The state of the world is very scary at the moment, isn’t it? All this extremism is very frightening, I think. As a parent, I think you are innately scared and you have a lot to fear.”

“But as humans in general, we will surmount it and we have to keep hope alive. I just try to love them as much as I can and try to imbue basic ethics to them, a sense of justice, respect for their fellow man and woman.”
