Laura Whitmore reveals why she wanted to keep her romance with Iain Stirling private

The couple secretly dated for months before they went public

Laura Whitmore has opened up about her romance with comedian Iain Stirling.

The Irish TV presenter secretly dated the Love Island narrator for months before the pair went public with the romance – and now she’s revealed why.

Laura told Fabulous magazine, “We’d been together for four or five months before we put anything on our social media.”

“I think at that point we were both like, ‘Should we just own it?’ And then once you put it out there, no one gives a s**t.”

“People only care when they don’t know something. We try not to push it in people’s faces, but it’s quite nice when Iain’s doing his show at the Apollo that I can tweet my support, and the same for him when I’m doing Survival Of The Fittest or the radio show,” she said.

“I think in the past I was almost trying to hide it because I didn’t want the attention, and if you open yourself up too much it’s hard to shut that door.

“So we’ve never really done any-thing together publicly. Maybe that will change, but at the moment we don’t really want to.”

The couple first got together last summer, and Laura recalled the time when she tried to keep a low profile in Mallorca, where Iain was working on Love Island.

“We tried to keep it as quiet as possible at the start,” she explained. “I remember going to Majorca last year and not telling anyone, even though I know most of the crew.

“If anyone had seen me they’d be like, ‘What the hell is Laura doing here?’

“I thought nobody knew, but it turned out everyone did. At the time I was like, ‘We totally got away with that’,” she laughed.

Love life aside, the 33-year-old is gearing up to host a new show on BBC Radio 5 Live later this month.

Laura Whitmore’s Sunday Session begins on Sunday July 22 at 11am, and will run for six weeks.

On top of that, Laura is set to star in Amy Huberman’s new RTÉ comedy Finding Joy.

The six-part series follows a single woman named Joy (Amy) as she navigates a painful breakup and looks for happiness in all of the wrong places.
