Keith Duffy slams RTE for axing him from Love/Hate: 'They didn't even call'

Keith Duffy has hit out at RTE, claiming that bosses at the station cut him out of drama Love/Hate, without telling him.

The Coronation Street star played personal trainer Mark last season, but said this season his character was meant to have a bigger part to play.

“I think RTE didn’t want me in Love/ Hate this season because of the backlash they got last year,” he said.

“I had a small role in the fourth season because it was very much introducing my character ahead of a much bigger plot line in this series.”

“No one rang or said ‘sorry, we’ve decided we’re not going to use you’. What I got instead was total silence,” he explained

“The series was shot and wrapped without me.”

Speaking to the Irish Sun on Sunday, Keith said there was no bad blood between him and the Love/Hate crew, but blamed RTE bosses for the decision to cut him out.

“There’s no bad feeling. I love the team on Love/Hate. I think a decision was taken by someone above them in RTE. I’m just too familiar for them from Boyzone.”

Keith added that the constant slagging from the public didn’t make things easy when he joined the drama series.

“I’m sure it was a pain in the a**e to some people, even though I went along and screen-tested like any other actor for the role,” he said.

“They (producers) came back and said, ‘Yes, we think this can work, we believe in you in this part.”
