Kathryn Thomas is taking over the role of presenting Ireland’s Fittest Family, while Mairead Ronan takes maternity leave.

The 39-year-old will be joined alongside coaches Davy Fitzgerald, Anna Geary, Donncha O’Callaghan and Derval O’Rourke for the new series.

“Fitness is a huge area of interest for me and I’m really looking forward to taking up the baton from Mairéad and getting stuck in,” the presenter said.

Meanwhile, Mairead has admitted that it was difficult not being part of Ireland’s Fittest Family this year

She said, “It’s hard to step back from the work family this year, but the timing on this one made the decision for me!”

Mairead is expecting to welcome her newborn by the end of summer, and is excited to watch Ireland’s Fittest Families with her own family.

The 37-year-old began presenting the programme in 2014, and the sixth season began filming with new host, Kathryn, over the weekend.

Kathryn gave birth to her first child, Ellie, in March and wished Mairead all the best with her pregnancy.

She said, “I wish her all the best for the rest of her pregnancy and her own big adventures in the months ahead.”

More details about the new season is set to be released next month for RTÉ Television’s New Season launch.
