Jim Carrey ‘never paid a dime’ for late girlfriend Cathriona White’s funeral

Jim Carrey has been accused of ‘never paying a dime’ for his late girlfriend Cathriona White’s funeral, after he allegedly offered to cover costs.

In the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles on Monday, Cathriona’s mother Brigid Sweetman and estranged husband Mark Burton filed an amended complaint alleging that Jim “never paid a dime of funeral expenses”.

They claim that the actor “reneged on his offer”, after finding out that his late girlfriend had left her family a “minimal amount of money.”

Jim, who is being sued by Cathriona’s family for allegedly providing her with the drugs that led to her death, has not commented on the most recent allegations.

The make-up artist, who was from Cappawhite, Co Tipperary, was found dead at her home in Los Angeles in September 2015.

The news comes after Jim failed to get the lawsuit over Cathriona death thrown out of court.

Last month, a judge confirmed that a trial will go ahead next April over claims that the actor used his “wealth, influence and celebrity status” to provide Cathriona with the prescriptions drugs that she overdosed with.

Jim’s lawyer Raymond Boucher had asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to throw out the case, but, Judge Deirdre Hill eventually ruled that the actor should face a jury over the wrongful death claims under the Drug Dealer Liability Act.

The judge also ruled against his privacy request, as she felt the jury should hear medical evidence regarding allegations that Jim gave Cathriona three sexually transmitted diseases during their on-off relationship.

Jim also dropped a request for Cathriona’s mother Brigid Sweetman to put a bond of $372,000 dollars (€327,000) aside to go towards his costs if he had managed to get the case thrown out of court.

Jim’s lawyer wrote to the court to dismiss the bond request, citing that Brigid lacks the means to pay and is ill.

After news of the trial broke, Jim’s lawyer denied that they would attempt to settle the case by saying, “We are preparing for trial.”

The 20-day trial is due to begin on April 26, 2018
