Irish score FIVE nominations at The Oscars 2018

It's an amazing year for Irish talent

There have been five Oscar nominations for Irish talent this year.

Actors Saoirse Ronan and Daniel Day Lewis are leading the charge for the Emerald Isle, as The Oscars 2018 nominations were announced in LA this morning.

Following on from her Golden Globe win, Saoirse has been nominated for Best Actress at The Oscars for Lady Bird.

Meanwhile Daniel Day Lewis scored a nomination for Best Actor, for his movie Phantom Thread.

Irish designer Consolata Boyle also got a nomination for Victoria and Abdul.

Joining the Dublin native on the impressive Oscars nominees list this year also is the movie Breadwinner, which has been nominated for Best Animation Feature.

The film was made by Irish company Cartoon Saloon and directed by Nora Twomey.

And finally, Irish/British playwright Martin McDonagh received a Best Original Screenplay nomination for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
