Stuart Townsend was reportedly arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, after getting into an argument with his wife at their home in Santa Monica, California.

TMZ has reported that the Irish actor’s neighbours called the police after they allegedly heard loud screaming coming from the couple’s home.

When officers showed up, they reportedly separated Stuart and his wife.

It’s alleged the 46-year-old’s partner complained about pain in her arms, but did not seek medical attention.

The outlet has reported that Stuart allegedly grabbed his wife by the arm, and refused to let her leave when she tried.

The Dublin native was reportedly arrested and booked for felony domestic violence, and is said to be facing two misdemeanour counts – false imprisonment and dissuading one from reporting a crime.

The actor was later released after posting $50k bail, and confirmed to TMZ that him and his wife did have a loud argument, but they have since resolved their issues.

Stuart said they both “look forward to this being resolved speedily and favorably and returning to their quiet lives as spouses and parents.”

Stuart’s wife also told the outlet that she asked the police not to arrest him, and said she’d like the matter dropped.

UPDATE: Almost two months after the incident, the actor’s representative has revealed Stuart will not face any charges.

A statement issued to Goss.ie reads: “The Santa Monica City Attorney has rejected bringing charges against Stuart Townsend in connection with an argument he and his wife had on September 5th.”

“This ends the matter. Agatha and Stuart Townsend are grateful to the Santa Monica Police and City Attorney’s office for the work they do protecting the community.”
