Imelda May reveals why she has ditched her trademark look

The singer is rocking a new look

Imelda May has revealed why she ditched her trademark blonde quiff, bold red lips and 50’s style hoop skirts.

The Dublin singer, who is known for her bold style, has recently been seen rocking nude makeup and a thick brown fringe.

The 42-year-old admitted that she felt as if she had become a character of herself, and that she had to dress up to become Imelda May.

“I always loved the fifties rockabilly style but there was a point where I felt I was almost dressing up as Imelda May,” she said.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, the singer said “It was as if I was getting into character for a gig. And I didn’t want to do that any more, this is the real me.”

The bold image change comes as she prepares to release her “most personal” album after her split from husband Darrell Higham in July last year.

“The album is about my life and what I’ve experienced recently. The songs are more honest than anything before,” she continued.

“I’ve gone through friendship, divorce, falling in love again, falling out of love again.”
