Aidan Cooney hasn’t appeared on Ireland AM in five weeks, leading viewers to believe that he’ll never return.

The sports presenter has worked for Virgin Media /TV3 for over 15 years, and also hosts his own daily radio show on Q102 FM.

However in recent weeks, Aidan has appeared absent from our screens, but has continued to present his Q102 show from 2pm to 5pm every week day.

According to the Irish Mail on Sunday, it’s believed Aidan is on ‘sick leave’ from the station, but Virgin Media has refused to comment on the matter.

A spokeswoman said, “As an ongoing and consistent policy we don’t ever comment on anyone’s contractual arrangements.”

TV3 recently rebranded as Virgin Media, and the station has made a number of changes over the past year.

Earlier this year, Ciara Doherty was officially confirmed as Sinead Desmond’s replacement, after the presenter left the station due to alleged pay dispute.

The newspaper also noted changes in the weather reporting slot, a gig previously shared between Martin King, Deric Hartigan and Conor Cleere.

Bosses have promoted Deric Hartigan to the role of ‘senior weather presenter’, making him the face of Virgin Media’s weather reporting.
