RTE star Grainne Seoige: 'The highlight of my year was getting engaged'

Grainne Seoige has revealed that getting engaged to her rugby coach boyfriend was the highlight of her year.

The TV star announced earlier this year that she had the question popped to her by South African Leon Jordaan.

And speaking about the highlights of her year, the 41-year-old said her engagement was right up there – as well as sister Sile’s charity single.

Asked about her own stand out moment this year, Grainne said: “There is a couple actually. The first is we announced our engagement this year, which was a lovely time for me and for my entire family.

“And also my sister’s charity single which is hopefully going to chart very well this Christmas. It’s for two amazing charities, ISPCC Childline and the MakeAWish Foundation.

“It’s called Maybe This Christmas and we are so proud of her doing this for such worthy causes.”

It comes as Grainne was announced as hosting the 40th anniversary of the People of the Year awards – which she admits makes her waterproof mascara work extremely hard.

“I look forward to the awards every year because I know it’s going to be an night of emotion, being uplifted, being inspired, and being made to feel really really humble,” she said.

“Because we forget sometimes how much Irish people can and do achieve all the time and it’s great to be reminded of it. And even more great to be reminded of it at Christmas time.

“What makes this night so special to present is that you’ve got such an amazing mix of people in the one room.

“You’ve got the great and good of Ireland, and you’ve got these people who’ve achieved something extraordinary during the year who the rest of the population would never have heard of except for these awards.

“And we get to honour them and thank them for achieving something truly extraordinary and that’s an amazing honour and privilege to witness.

“And the fact that I’m on stage and these people generally get a fantastic surprise when they come on is really wonderful. It really does make the waterproof mascara work really, really hard, but it’s an amazing night.”
