Crona Byrne has said that it is “lovely” to see how much her father, beloved broadcaster Gay Byrne, touched the lives of people all over the country.
In an interview with the Clare Champion newspaper, Crona said she has felt “incredible” public support since his death last week.
“Gay was such a mainstay for so many homes in Ireland for so many years, it is lovely to hear the stories people are posting on social media,” she said.
“Some beautiful stories are being shared.”
“It is lovely to see how Gay touched so many lives. ”
Crona also opened up about her father’s charity work, that many people may not be aware of.
“People didn’t know all the work Dad did behind the scenes,” she revealed.
She told an anecdote about her father, explaining that he raffled off a Harley Davidson motorbike he had been given as a gift from U2, in order to raise €82,000 for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
Gay was laid to rest at St Fintan’s Cemetery in Sutton on Friday.
