Fans from the U.K and Switzerland have flocked to Ireland to attend Stephen Gately’s 10th anniversary mass.

The Boyzone star passed away on October 10, 2009 at the age of 33, and a post mortem later revealed that he died of sudden arrhythmia death syndrome.

The pop star died at his home in Mallorca, where he was holidaying with his partner Andrew Cowles.

According to the Irish Sun, fans from afar made the journey to Dublin to remember the late singer.

The mass took place this morning at St. Laurence O’Toole Church on Sheriff Street in Dublin – where he was laid to rest ten years ago.

37-year-old Michelle Blythe, who travelled from the UK, told the publication: “We wanted to come to remember Stephen. He was a huge part of all of our lives.”

“People who could come over, came over. It’s just I suppose to show that is he still so loved by so many people and he really did make such a positive impact on so many people’s lives,” she explained.

Another fan, Laura Ruttimann from Geneva in Switzerland, said she travels to Dublin every year to mark Stephen’s birthday.

“I usually do the trip and go to Dalkey where his ashes were spread. I usually go there to remember him, and because it’s nice,” she explained.

In a touching tribute to her favourite member of Boyzone she says Stephen changed her life.

“When I first saw Stephen he changed my life. I grew up with them. I’ve loved them. Stephen was very important to me.”
