EXCLUSIVE! Maia Dunphy: 'Going back to work is exhausting'

RTÉ star Maia Dunphy has revealed that going back to work after having a baby is “exhausting.”

The new mum and her husband comedian Johnny Vegas announced the birth of their first child Tom Laurence in July.

Speaking at the launch for pal David Gillick’s new cookbook David Gillick’s Kitchen, she admitted that she may have tried to go back to work too soon.

“I think I tried to do it too soon, he’s eight weeks now, so I naively said to myself – right he’s due mid July, I’ll take off four weeks then I’ll go back.

“It’s just exhausting so after four weeks I thought this isn’t going to happen,” she told Goss.ie.

The broadcaster has two documentaries coming to RTÉ in a new series called The Truth About in October, one about childbirth and the other about Irish people living in London.

And Maia revealed that she was struggling to do the voiceover for the shows production due to tiredness.

“I did the VO for my two new shows today and… god I made a mess of them because I can’t even string a sentence together.

“It’s a weird new kind of, I mean I’ve done tiredness before, but its a different kind of tiredness,” she told Goss.ie.

Although she admittedly finds the tiredness difficult, she gushed about her little bundle of joy and revealed how she managed her first flight with him.

“He’s great, little Tom is lovely. He was great [during the flight], he cried once and I realised my seatbelt was digging into his back so once we sorted that out, he was fine.”
