EXCLUSIVE! Deirdre O’Kane says she’s ‘very honoured’ to be a Grand Marshal for St. Patrick’s Day parade

Deirdre O’Kane has said that she is “very honoured” to be announced as a Grand Marshal for the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The comedian will lead the parade alongside fellow comedian, Jason Byrne and exclusively spoke to Goss.ie about the news.

“I was very honoured, very honoured because Paddy’s Day is a massive deal for me already. I just thought, that’s just a perfect day,” she told us.

“I know they probably didn’t intend to help me sell tickets for Comic Relief, but with all of the money going to the homeless and refugee crisis it was a damn nice gesture. Whether it was intentional or not, it will help us to sell tickets to a really important show.”

The comedian opened up about Paddy’s Night in Support of Comic Relief in Dublin’s 3Arena and said: “It won’t be every year because we can’t support it every year. So don’t miss it because it is special.”

Deirdre also revealed who’s her favourite to take home the glitter ball trophy: “I think Johny and Mairéad are going to win it. I want John to win it because I couldn’t win it for him. I got him to the final and I couldn’t win it for him.”

“I think they deserve it and obviously you can’t talk about the final without talking about Johnny Ward because he is an extraordinary dancer. But Mairéad has a five-month-old baby, you know what I mean?”
