EXCLUSIVE! How Barry Keoghan prepared for the superhero role that would be ‘UNREAL’ to land

Barry Keoghan is a man on a mission to land a specific superhero role this year, we caught up with him to hear what he’s set his sights on.

No stranger to hard work and serious roles Barry has accomplished what other actors can only ever dream of, and all before his 26th birthday.

The ambitious Dublin actor has his eye on the role of Nightwing, a superhero from DC’s comics.

He tells us that the script is nearly finished and how he’s gone about preparing for his dream role in the hope that he lands it.

“I’m a huge fan of DC and to play Nightwing, it’d be unreal like.”

“I went and learned some martial arts and some gymnastics.”

When asked to demonstrate some moves he joked that his Dior suit was too tight for a display.

It’s a testament to the young actor to see the amount of work that goes into preparation before he is even considered for a role, here’s hoping it pays off.

Over the last year he made a short about Nightwing in the hope it would improve his chances of success securing the role.

“I have a short movie coming out now and hopefully I’ll pitch it and see what happens.”

His girlfriend, Shona, remarked that it involved “a lot of cold nights in a lot of warehouses!”

Focusing on the near future though Barry outlined his upcoming projects.

“I’ve signed on to… Calm With Horses. It’s Nick Roland directing. It’s set in the West of Ireland. That’s gonna be a cracking one.”

He’s delighted to get to work at home for a while

“And then we’re going to a HBO Chernobyl TV series. That’s a five part series.”

He hasn’t picked easy roles so far and asked if the trend of serious characters he chooses to play will continue he nods.

“Yeah. I wanna tell good stories with good film makers like you know, Paul Thomas Anderson, Lenny Abrahamson. All them lads. If I could just get on their side, they’re the ones.”

With his Trojan work ethic there’s no telling how far Barry will go but it’s safe to say he’s not making friends with mediocrity anytime soon.
