EXCLUSIVE! Amanda Byram opens up on coming home to Dublin

The presenter hasn't worked on an Irish live show in 16 years

Amanda Byram has opened up on coming home to Dublin for Dancing With The Stars.

The Dubliner spoke to Goss.ie about how it’s been since she joined Nicky Byrne as hosts for the RTE show, which brought in over a million viewers in it’s first live show.

“It means an awful lot [to host DWTS] – and I’m not saying that for the sake of saying it. It means something because I’m from here,” she said.

Amanda revealed that now that she is back working in Dublin for the first time in 16 years, she is able for the first time to bring her family to watch one of her live shows.

“It means something because my parents can come, their friends, my aunt, my uncle – everybody is here and I’ve never been able to do that on a show before,” she told Goss.ie.

“My only ever other show in Ireland was Ireland AM and that didn’t have an audience.

“I would go to show and I would come home, but this makes me so proud to be Irish.

“It makes me so proud that everybody has put in so much incredible effort for a show like this. I think on air that shows.”

Cha-cha-chance: The Dubliner had opportunities to dance on Strictly but turned them down | VIPIRELAND.COM

The Dubliner also revealed that she had been asked to dance on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing – but had turned down the chance because of one reason or another.

“Things come around the way they’re supposed to and now I’m hosting the Irish version.

“Which for me is much better because I get to come home, see my family and I get to be in Dublin again which I haven’t done in 16 years – I’ve not stayed here for more than a couple of days,” she explained.

Two left feet: Amanda would love the chance to learn to dance | VIPIRELAND.COM

The presenter also admitted that if she had the chance to learn how to dance, she absolutely would do it – and might steal one of the star’s partners to practice.

“Absolutely – I mean I have two left feet but the whole point of the show is to go from two left feet to a left and a right foot.

“I can’t dance on this show because I don’t know what opportunities are left because I’m going to be busy prepping for this every time Strictly is on so who knows.

“I’ll have to hit one of these pro dancers, nab them and say ‘Teach me to dance,'” she added.

Catch up on Dancing With The Stars on RTE Player and watch it every Sunday from 6.30pm on RTE 1.
