Eve Hewson: 'Hollywood directors don't give a crap that I'm Bono's daughter'

She’s the daughter of one of the world’s most famous musicians, but Eve Hewson says no one in Hollywood cares that Bono is her dad.

Despite the U2 frontman being her father, budding actress Eve said she only gets roles in movies based on merit, not on her name.

“What’s great about Hollywood is that it is so cutthroat, and it really f**king doesn’t matter who you are. If you’re not right for the part, you’re not right the part.”

“No director is going to sacrifice their film because they want someone’s famous kid in it for a headline,” she said.

Eve has a new role in BBC drama The Knick and yesterday revealed she had to inject cocaine into Clive Owen’s manhood in their first scene together.

She also starred with Sean Penn in This Must Be The Place.

But while her acting career is taking off now, Eve said at first her parents Bono and Ali Hewson weren’t too happy about her going into such a tough industry.

“My parents were being protective of me, and I honestly didn’t think they would have been good parents if they weren’t wary of me, entering the entertainment industry.”

“They wanted to make sure I really knew what I was signing up for and that I was serious,” she explained.

“And I basically said to my dad that, look, I’m just as passionate about movies as you were about music.

“And when you were 18 you wouldn’t let anyone stop you so you’ve gotta let me do this.”

“He was like, ‘Oh s**t. I do’. I went to school and I studied it and I wanted to know what I was talking about and I wanted to learn about it.”

“I’m really glad I did and with that they really saw that I was dedicated and disciplined about it. And it was hard. I definitely didn’t get every job I went out for.”

“They started to have sympathy with me. And they saw I was being relentless, that I wasn’t
stopping just because someone said no one time.”

“I think they respected that I was committed to it. Now they’re so proud of me.”
