Donal Skehan has opened up about becoming a father for the first time.
Last month, the celebrity chef announced that he and his wife Sofie are expecting their first child – and the couple couldn’t be happier.
Since revealing Sofie’s pregnancy, the pair, who live in Los Angeles, have been overwhelmed by the support – but Donal’s glad they had time to process it before making the news public.
“We always like to hold onto something just for ourselves. It’s so lovely that there’s such an interest in it, but we had such a time with it just being our news,” he told VIP Magazine.
“Considering our world is about to be rocked, to have that time just with each other, was really important.”
The 31-year-old is looking forward to fatherhood, but admitted that the couple are already preparing for the tough aspects of parenthood.
“The one thing that myself and Sofie love doing is having family time together, so spending as much with family is going to be key. You can have all the best-laid plains though. I’m sure we’ll be killing each other over lack of sleep.
“We have patterns of how we deal with things and when I travel, Sofie has loads of free time and vice versa. I think that’s the thing we are both most nervous and excited about, just how different our lives are going to be. We’re enjoying our time together now as we know there’s a storm a-coming!”
Speaking about how the pair first met, Donal has admitted that it was love at first sight, and within three weeks Donal moved over to Gothenburg, Sweden, to be with her.
“I’ve always followed my gut and with Sofie, I just fell in love. My mum did wonder what the hell I was doing, but in fairness my parents have always been very supportive.
“Myself and Sofie knew we were onto something good. I am spontaneous, but I also don’t jump into something that I don’t believe in,” he added.
