‘Devastated’ Ross O’Carroll-Kelly spotted sobbing into pints of Heino as Kielys is put up for sale

Ross O’Carroll-Kelly has reportedly been seeing sobbing in to pints of Heino as for sale signs are erected outside Kielys.

Following the news that the historic establishment is being sold the schools rugby star has released a statement.

He is also rumoured to be consulting with Hennessy as to the legalities (if that’s even the right word) of selling such an important cultural hub.

“Yes, it’s official. Mary and Pat are selling @Kielysdonnyb. I am devastated today. Such wonderful hosts. Borred me many times over the years but always let me back in.”

“It really is the end of an era. Anyone interested in putting together a consortium?”

The dad-of-two has questioned why the site not historically protected and may petition the government to this effect before the sale is finalsed.

Mary Crimmin, owner of Kielys Pub in Donnybrook spoke to Ryan Tubridy on his show on RTÉ Radio 1 about her and her husband Pat’s decision to sell up, after three decades in business, as they prepare for retirement.

She told Ryan how emotional the last 24 hours have been since the news broke, ‘We thought we understood what Kielys meant to people but we had no idea’.

“The hardest phone call I had to make yesterday was to Ross O’Carroll Kelly himself and tell him we were selling up and he was absolutely devo.”

She told the RTÉ presenter that her and her husband have four children, but Kielys was always like the big bold child which took all of their attention over the years, “We gave it everything.”

They expressed their praise for the dedication and loyalty of John O’Brien, their manager, and his wife Angela, and all the staff who worked in the pub over the years.
