Derry Girls confirmed for a third season

Derry Girls has been confirmed for a third season.

The second season of the hilarious Channel 4 programme ended on Tuesday night and the broadcaster revealed the news after the show came to a close.

It’s clear that the cast are just as excited as fans for the upcoming season, as Nicola Coughlan tweeted: “You didn’t think we’d leave you that easy did you? #DerryGirls SERIES 3 IS HAPPENING MOTHAF**KAS!!!”

Writer, Lisa McGee created the programme using experiences from her childhood and speaking of the third season, she said: “I love writing this show and I’m so thrilled to be able to continue the Derry Girls story, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!”

Meanwhile, Head of Comedy for Channel 4, Fiona McDermott said: “It’s no surprise that Derry Girls continues to delight a growing legion of fans – a combination of magical writing and adorable characters make this show both timely and timeless.”

The news comes just weeks after Derry Girls was nominated for a BAFTA in the ‘Best Scripted Comedy’ category.

The comedy has been hugely popular since it first hit screens in 2018 and we can’t wait for the next season.
