Courteney Cox left 'overwhelmed' by Snow Patrol star's proposal

Courteney Cox has revealed that her Snow Patrol fiancee sought her mum for permission to propose before popping the question.

The former Friends star plans to walk down the aisle “real soon” with Johnny McDaid after their proposal earlier this year.

And the 50-year-old – whose dad Richard died 13 years ago – said he proved a “true gentleman” by asking her mum Cece for permission to propose.

He pulled the 79-year-old aside while helping her settle into a nursing home at home in Birmingham, Alabama.

“I was so overwhelmed when I heard what he had done. It’s the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard of and boy am I grateful mum said yes to him,” she said.

“It made my mum so happy to know I’m with such a great guy and the fact is that since that day she hasn’t stopped telling me how wonderful Johnny is.

“It made her feel really proud to be able to give him her blessing to go ahead and propose to me and it was a real bonding moment between her and Johnny that all three of us now share.”

Overwhelmed: Johnny got mum’s permission

Speaking about his gesture, Courteney added she first knew “something huge” had happened when her mum told her: “I’ve never seen you happier. Don’t be afraid to let love in. He’s a keeper.”

The Cougar Town star also revealed they won’t be getting married in Birmingham, but will be holding a small blessing ceremony there for the sake of her mum.

It is understood they are looking at Irish castles with plans to hold a wedding close to Johnny’s family.
