Conor McGregor and Rory McIlroy named on Forbes’ sports rich list

Irish sport stars Conor McGregor and Rory McIlroy have been named on Forbes’ list of the world’s 100 highest paid athletes.

The two were included on the coveted list which was topped by Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who earned €77.1million.

Appearing on the list for the first time, UFC fighter Conor McGregor came in 85th on the list having earned €19.3million.

The only MMA fighter to make the list, Conor earned €15.7million from his winnings and €3.5million in endorsements.

While golfer Rory McIlroy moved down five places from last year’s 12th to 17th spot.

Having won his first Irish Open in May, the 27-year-old brought in €37.3million.

€30.6million of the Holywood native’s earnings came from endorsement, with €6.6million coming from his winnings.
