Caroline Wozniacki: 'Serena Williams helped me get over my split from Rory'

Caroline Wozniacki has revealed it was her best friend Serena Williams who helped her get over her split from Rory McIlroy.

While the pair may be competitors, they have been close gal pals for years and it was Serena’s tough-talking attitude that helped the blonde beauty through the break-up.

The famous athlete even threatened to fly to Monaco herself if Caroline did not answer her phone.

“My phone was going crazy. But I didn’t want to talk to anyone. “First she texted, ‘If you don’t pick up, I am going to fly to Monaco,'” she revealed.

“And then, ‘If you don’t answer the door, I am going to knock it down.’ So I thought, OK, I better answer the phone. And I am so glad I did. She wasn’t pitying me, like a lot of people were.”

“I mean, it’s not like anyone died. I was in shock, but she was really helpful because she had been through it before,” she told Vogue.

“She didn’t sugarcoat it, and she didn’t look down on me. She was really there for me when I needed her the most, and that’s why I think our friendship is so strong now.”

Caroline and Rory famously split after two years after the Irish golfer reportedly broke up with the tennis pro during a seven minute phone call.

“I was devasted. I had planned the bachelorette party!” she revealed.

The tennis superstar also divulged she was impressed by how “strong” Caroline was during the split.

“I was impressed with how strong she was. And you know, there will be other engagement parties. Many.”
