Brian O'Driscoll's shocking confession: 'I was arrested for ASSAULT in New York'

Rugby star Brian O’Driscoll has revealed he spent a night in a New York jail after being arrested on assault charges.

The former Leinster captain was in Madison Square Garden at an REM concert with friends including business partner Damien O’Donoghue back in 2008.

When suddenly they got into a row with a concert goer in a packed lift.

“Suddenly this maniac charges across the foyer in our direction. He has Damo in his sights. Damo has just enough time to brace himself and shout at the guy, “Don’t ******* do this! I’m warning you!”

“He winds up a dig and launches it at Damo, who throws out an arm to protect himself. The guy runs straight into it and drops, like a newborn lamb.”

In excerpts from Brian’s debut autobiography in today’s Sunady Times, Brian reveals after splitting up and leaving the venue he was then stopped by cops, after a couple accused him of assault.

“I start walking faster – he steps up his pace. I duck behind a van and double back but I can’t shake him. It suddenly strikes me that I’m acting like I’m guilty, running from the truth.”

“Pretty soon my stalker friend has reinforcements–the couple he was with in the arena,” he said.

“Then a police car pulls up and two officers step out.”

“They put me in the back seat and I lower my head. The handcuffs are tight against my wrists.”

Brian was then brought to a prison in downtown Manhattan and was put in a cell for 24 hours.

Although a judge set a court date for a week later, after Brian attended the hearing he was not charged with assault.
