Azealia Banks refuses to apologise – after calling Irish women ‘ugly’

The rapper has come under fire

Azealia Banks has refused to apologise for calling Irish women “ugly”, ahead of her show at The Academy in Dublin tonight.

In case you didn’t know, the 212 rapper hit headlines on Monday after she removed herself from an Aer Lingus flight, and claimed that she was mistreated by staff.

During a furious rant on her Instagram Story, Azealia made harsh comments about the  “ugly Irish” air hostess she was dealing with, and continued to brand Irish women as “ugly”.

After claiming that she was banned from flying with Aer Lingus, Azealia ended up catching a ferry to Ireland, and she arrived in Dublin this morning ahead of her gig.

However, Azealia was soon faced with serious backlash for her comments about Irish women, and many people started sending her threatening messages on social media – which Azealia then shared on her Instagram Story.

One message to Azealia read, “Hope you stay away from Ireland, we don’t want your crusty old ass stinking up the place. Bet your parents are proud they raised someone so racist.”

The rapper simply replied, “No cares babe. I know you want me to but I really don’t.”

In another message to Azealia, an Instagram user wrote, “Girl! You have a right to your opinion or whatever you call your statement but don’t go calling them ugly irish girls all over the internet… just remember saying ugly irish girls is giving a name for all of us irish girls and we aint all ugly! Fix your mistake ask for an apology from staff and leave it nobody wants hate comments..” [sic]

Azealia replied, “I never said all Irish women were ugly. I said the women on the plane were ugly Irish women and I was speaking SPECIFICALLY about their spirits. Irish women are showing their eagerness to spew racism by twisting my words to say I called the whole country ugly. And no… I’m not apologising. Y’all keep showing your ugly hearts and minds, none of them DESERVE my apology.”

After receiving threats about people throwing stuff at her on stage tonight, Azealia warned, “We have a no bags/no baggy clothes policy for the show tomorrow night. Everyone will be thoroughly searched before they enter. And police outside of the concert. I would love to see you animals put in cages where you belong.”

The 27-year-old also shared a screenshot of her conversation with Irish UFC star Conor McGregor on Instagram, in which he told her, “See you soon” – hinting that he may make an appearance at her gig tonight.

She tagged Conor in the screenshot, and added, “Conor help me they are bullying me.”

The New York City native also shared a message from a bartender at The Academy, who reassured her that they have the best security.

He wrote: “I can tell you, you’re in such safe hands. They have some of the best security in the country. I’ve been threatened by customers many times and I’ve always felt safe with the bodyguards in the venue. I hope you’re not letting the shitstirrers get to your head because you’re better than that gal. Can’t wait to see the show.”

Azealia replied, “Thank you so much! This message is very comforting. I’ve never seen people act like such animals. Throwing potatoes and poop? Terrible excuses for homo-sapiens. They belong in the zoo. This really made me feel better, thanks. It’s been such a rough day.”
