Author Emma Hannigan has passed away following decade long cancer battle

Very sad news broke today that Emma Hannigan has passed away after a lengthy 11-year-long cancer battle.

After battling cancer ten times she was given the diagnosis that her cancer was terminal.

In the lead up to her passing she did incredible fundraising for Breast Cancer Ireland, resulting in over €100,000 being donated to the charity.

BCI announced the awful news this afternoonn and expressed their deepest sympathies.

“BCI wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of our dear friend Emma Hannigan who lost her battle with cancer earlier today. RIP”

Tributes have poured in for the mum-of-two who was only 45.

TV3’s Elaine Crowley, who had a unicorn tattooed on her behind as part of her fundraising efforts with Emma posted a heartfelt message.

“Our lovely and beautiful friend Emma Hannigan has lost her battle to Cancer. She was such an inspiration to all of us and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with her family. She will always be in our hearts.”

Norah Casey remebered Emma as “a wonderful courageous woman” in her tribute to the late author.

Deirdre O’Kane spoke about the legacy she left behind saying “she literally stormed out of this life, raising €100k for breast cancer, before she went… there are few that I admired this much.”
