Amy Huberman has admitted that she once thought she would “never act again”.

In an interview with the RTÉ Guide, the mother-of-two opened up about the struggles of being an actress, and how she thought she might never get work again about three years ago.

“Nobody has it all and I wouldn’t want to portray my life as such either. I would say that I’m a positive person but nothing in life is perfect.

“There was a time when the kids were little, when I felt like I just couldn’t get any work, I thought ‘What if I never act again?’ That was about three years ago. Now I’m not saying that as in ‘poor me’ as that’s just the reality of what I do.”

The stunning actress also admitted that she was crushed when she was axed from a show which was being filmed in Los Angeles.

“But I was really floored when I was dropped from the pilot show, Animal Practice, in LA. It could happen again in a year or two that I don’t get work, but that’s ok too.”

Amy had played ‘Dorothy’, the ex-girlfriend of the main character in the pilot sitcom, which followed a vet who loves animals but hates their owners.

The show was picked up by NBC for 13 episodes, however, when contacted by NBC bosses – Amy was told that while the pilot was being turned into a full series, she would not be in it.

Amy is one of Ireland’s most loved celebrities, and has been hailed as a ‘national treasure’ in the past.

However, Amy isn’t so keen on such a grand label, as she said, “Oh God! That’s awful! I’d never say that.|

“That also scares me because what happens when you fall? Are you then the National un-Treasure? Those labels feel too big to live up to and I would never even think of trying to.”

The actress has starred in a number of movies in the past few years, including The Stag and Handsome Devil.

Amy is married to former Irish rugby player Brian O’Driscoll, and the couple are parents to two children, Sadie and Billy.
