Al Porter snubs Colm Hayes after claims that he discovered him

Al Porter has snubbed the idea of inviting Colm Hayes on his Today FM radio show.

The 23-year-old has hit back after an interview in the Irish Sun on Sunday in which Colm claimed he discovered Al “pulling bingo balls in a nursery home”.

The 55-year-old broadcaster also reportedly complained that although he gave Al his big break on his RTÉ 2fm show, Al was yet to return the favour on his new Today FM show.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, Al said. “I love Colm but I can’t have him on the radio show because it would be too weird — like inviting your dad to join your football team.”

Although Al completely agrees that Colm got his name out there on the radio, he insisted, “I certainly wasn’t picking bingo balls when Colm found me.”

“Colm convinced Dan Healy at 2fm to put me on the radio but there was no money so Colm paid me. He insisted Al Porter should be on RTE,” he said.

“We only speak to each other through the papers now. The reason we don’t talk more is that Colm is writing books and busy with his Cycle against Suicide tour.”

The comedian also suggested that Colm would like to return to the airwaves, perhaps at the same time as Al – so they can find out who the “real radio star” is.

“I think what Colm would like is his own radio show, at the same time as mine. That way we could compete and find out who is the real radio star,” he joked.
