Aisling O’Loughlin has admitted that 2017 is a fresh start for her following her split from her long-term love Nic MacInnes.

“2017 seems to be a year of fresh starts for me,” she said.

Aisling opened up about how she met her former love and how their relationship progressed at “breakneck speed.”

“Nic rocked up on his bike, and had that whole French fabulousness thing going on and nice shiny hair,” she told the Sunday Independent.

“And I’m a sucker for French men. If I had lived in the 1950s I’d be deemed a naughty girl and would have been in a Magdalene laundry scrubbing somebody’s clothes.

“The thing is that Nic could brush past me and I’d get pregnant. So that’s why we don’t live together any more because I’m done having babies.”

The mother-of-three also revealed that she feels there is an expectation put upon young women.

“It started on a clean slate and I get to fill in the lines, because I’m now in charge and it’s time to stand up and be a woman.

“The system favours nice girls and acquiescent girls and those who look a certain way, but when you talk back and chop off your hair or decide not to play by the rules, you’re a nasty girl.

“There’s a sense now that Mna na hEireann and the women of the world are rising up and saying, ‘We’re not what you think we are. We are very different,'” she added.
