Steve Garrigan opens up on his battle with anxiety: 'It's okay to ask for help'

Steve Garrigan has opened up on his battle with anxiety.

In a conversation with Voice of Ireland coach Bressie for his site aLustforLife.com, the Kodaline frontman discussed his battle with panic attacks.

“I’d say that it’s okay not to feel okay and it’s okay to ask for help,” he said.

“I’ve dealt with anxiety and panic attacks for years. I kept quiet about them because I was afraid of what people might thin.

“I suppose I’d put that down to the stigma around mental health but it’s refreshing to see that mentality slowly changing.

Meanwhile, Steve revealed that songwriting has served as his escape from stress.

“Without song writing I’d be an anxious mess,” he told Bressie.

“It’s my escapism, my therapy, and yes I probably am subconsciously writing about repressed feelings.

Stress: Steve explained song writing is his form of escape

Despite Kodaline’s massive success, Steve insisted fame hasn’t changed them.

“I’m a very shy guy and success hasn’t really changed me. I think the four of us are very grounded and down to earth.

“We appreciate everything as it took us ten years to get where we are today. We’ll never forget where we started.”
