6 Things We Know About Rory McIlroy’s Wedding This Weekend

Rory McIlroy will finally wed Erica Stoll this weekend, and the wedding is going to be seriously lavish.

The loved-up pair first met when Erica came to the golfer’s rescue at the Ryder Cup at Medinah in October 2012, and the couple later got engaged in Paris in 2015.

With rumours rife that Stevie Wonder is set to perform at their nuptials, we’ve listed the SIX things we know ahead of the star-studded affair.

1. It’s taking place in Co. Mayo

The lavish nuptials will be held at the five-star Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo, and it’s rumoured to be “one of the most lavish weddings ever staged”.

Ashford Castle is a special place for both Rory and Erica, as they have rang in the New Year there for the past two years.

Aside from their love for the newly revamped castle, privacy was one of the main reasons why they booked the location, as celebrities can book out the entire castle, including 83 rooms, for a whopping €70,000.

The €4,000-a-night Presidential Suite, and the Hideaway Cottage, which costs €3,500 a night, has been booked up for this entire week.

2. The guest list is very star-studded

Rory and Erica’s wedding will be attended by plenty of well-known faces this weekend.

The guest list includes the likes of 1D star Niall Horan, who Rory’s grown close to over the years, as well as a host of heavy hitters from the fairways including Padraig Harrington.

3. The entertainment will be top class

One thing is definitely for sure – Rory has spared NO expense for his nuptials this weekend.

Stevie Wonder, Coldplay AND Ed Sheeran are all rumoured to perform at the lavish bash – but nothing has been officially confirmed.

4. Their honeymoon will be “in the middle of nowhere”

Not much is known about Rory and Erica’s honeymoon, but it’s said that the pair will fly off in a private jet to a place described as “the middle of nowhere”.

Rory won’t return to the green until he competes in the Players Championship in Florida, which takes place from May 11-14, so the pair should enjoy a decent post-wedding break.

5. They’ll miss out on any sunshine

Unfortunately for the happy couple, the sun won’t come out for their special day.

While their may not be much sunshine – the rain is expected to stay away, which is always a win in the West!

6. It’s going to be a SERIOUS party

As we said before, Rory has spared no expense for his lavish nuptials.

With a star-studded guest list, a list of top class performers and a handsome budget – Rory and Erica’s wedding reception is guaranteed to be a wild one.
