Thomas Markle has claimed his daughter, Meghan, “has always been very controlling”.
The 74-year-old has spoken out about the ongoing rumours about his daughter’s alleged ‘rift’ with Kate Middleton and shared his hopes to reconnect with the 37-year-old.
Meghan’s father appeared on Good Morning Britain today, as he told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: “Every day I text her, but I haven’t received anything back.”
“I would appreciate a card or a phone call, or just some sign that she knows I’m here. She knows I love her,” he said, after revealing he hasn’t spoken to Meghan since June.
When Piers claimed that the Duchess ditched her friends after marrying the prince, Thomas responded: “That’s really not a character trait of hers. She’s always been very polite and a very good…She’s always been very polite to everyone. She’s never been rude to anyone.”
“I’m certainly hoping everything goes well and they produce a beautiful baby. I’m certainly hoping I’ll get to see a little Meghan or a little Harry. That would be very nice. I look forward to that happening. I’m hopeful. I think it should happen. I think she’ll make a great mom, and maybe things will soften a little bit and we’ll connect again.”
Speaking of his daughter’s alleged rift with Kate Middleton, the 74-year-old said: “I don’t believe them. I think they’re gossip…Meghan’s always been a very polite girl. She has never been rude to anyone to my knowledge. She was raised on Hollywood stages and learned to respect the crew and learned to respect everyone. I just can’t see her being rude to anybody.”
Thomas did, however, say that the former actress has always been “controlling”: “She’s always been a very controlling person—that’s part of her nature—but she’s never been rude, to my knowledge. The ghosting I don’t completely understand. But to my knowledge, like I said, she’s always been in charge. That’s her nature,” he maintained. “But she’s always been polite.”
The father-of-three still hopes to reconnect with his daughter, despite Meghan’s “ghosting” of him: “I think she’ll reach out in time—and I’m hoping she knows I’m here.”
